Belt drives and centring

Belt laser centring, pulley diagnostics and repairs

Laser alignment of belt drives, also known as alignment or axis alignment, is a very common job for our service technicians. Laser alignment is a particularly appreciated service, usually after an electric motor or fan repair.

We carry out belt alignment work and pulley diagnostics.

Laser centring of belts is a very important step that directly affects the transmission of power. If the work is not done properly, belts may not work in line with their trapezoidal part, shifting, twisting across – thus not only shortening their service life, but in some cases, in practice, without even starting it. If the belt spins on the edges of the pulley, it will be rejected immediately. This can lead to more serious consequences, such as overloading of the electric motor or even downtime of the entire mechanism. The vibrations transmitted to the electric motor, the fan bearings and the fan itself are directly dependent on the correct belt tension.

After centring, it is essential that the motor is properly tensioned against the fan shaft. For accurate belt tensioning, the belt manufacturer’s recommended calculation software shall be used to determine the correct belt tension range, taking into account the power of the electric motor.

It can happen that the belts cannot be properly tensioned after centring. In this case, the problem is with the pulley, which has worn paths that do not allow the belts to be properly tensioned. In this situation, we can also carry out a working diagnosis of the pulley.
